WAGE ON! Women, Art, and Money
Ceres Gallery in Chelsea, New York City
January 31 through February 25, 2017
Juror: Helga Christoffersen, Assistant Curator, the New Museum in New York City
Organizer: Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA)
This exhibition explores how women artists view the current economic climate and its impact on wages, identity, and lives of women both in and beyond the art world. With the emergence of big data and the digital humanities, we can now chart and interpret income inequality, disparities in both prices and sales of art by men and women, the rising cost of living, and global financial crises with ease. Yet, these statistics often miss women’s real experiences around money, and how financial realities impact women’s lives.
